ViSalus 101

With the holidays on our hands, and a lot of food coming our way, I thought now would be a good time to do a little shake post!

I've had quite a few people reach out to me, inquiring about 'these shakes' i'm always talking about, so let's talk!

Welcome to ViSalus shakes 101:

What is it? :

It is a powder mix-in that will change your life. ViSalus has come up with a powder that is packed with all of the vitamins and nutrients your body needs to function properly and make you feel and look great.

How does it work? :

A meal replacement that works. Once you start giving your body what it needs, your metabolism wakes up, actually starts to work, and you begin to feel and look better. There are no secret ingredients or magic diet supplements in it! It's as simple as portion control and the balance of needed nutrients.

If you're like me, even when i'm trying to eat well, i'm not getting all of the nutrients my body needs. By mixing ViSalus into my shakes, I get a convenient, yummy, and well balanced meal. I am addicted because I feel better, have more energy, and look better.

If you're looking to lose weight, here's what you'd do…

- Order the 'Shape Kit', $99

This kit will give  you what you need to get started. You can always upgrade kits or add single items to your order if you ever want to. (i like the nutra-cookies to use as snacks, especially if i'm out and about)

It comes with 2 pouches of sweet cream powder (tastes like cake batter and goes great with everything) and flavor mix ins (i don't really use the mix ins, i use frozen fruit, veggies, etc.) This will last you one month, while drinking the two shakes a day.

- Replace 2 meals a day with a ViSalus Shake. 
   
    For the most part, I drink my shakes for breakfast, after I work out, and for lunch. That way I can eat dinner with my family. But if i have a lunch date one day, i'll drink a shake for breakfast and dinner. You choose and it can change every day.

You can mix the power with any liquid of your choice. I like to do one fruity one with greens, and one chocolatey one with milk or almond milk. The possibilities endless.

- Eat healthy snacks in between each 'meal' (shake)

    This one can be hard, because we get busy and finding healthy snacks can overwhelm us. But this is also so important because you need to be eating small meals all day long; 1. So your metabolism keeps working, and 2. So you don't get hungry! Starving yourself is NOT the way to lose weight.
Also, people say shakes are hard for them because they miss chewing. . . well that's what your snacks are for!

- Drink lots of water (as you always should)

- Stay on schedule, write it down!

      It's helpful for me to make a chart at the beginning of each week. I write out my schedule and check  it off as the day goes by. That way it keeps me on track and makes me think twice about eating candy (i must admit, i schedule in candy because if i deprive myself of it, i eat way more than i usually would)



- Eat a healthy 3rd meal of your choice. * remember portions

    Like I said, I eat dinner with my family for my third meal. Since I have been strict all day with my shakes and snacks, I make and eat the meals I normally do. The only difference is that I am careful with my portions. Don't be too hard on yourself, but be smart.

   After dinner, I eat a little treat then I don't eat past 7. Brush your teeth and drink water.

- Commit and give yourself time

   This works! But it only works if you stick to the program. ViSalus is set up as a 90 day challenge, so remember, the best results will come if you stick with the full 90 days.

TAKE BEFORE PICTURES and TAKE YOUR MEASUREMENTS EACH WEEK! This is important. You will lose weight, but you will also lose inches! With women, we seem to lose more inches rather than weight… but isn't that what we want?! Don't worry so much about the scale, because   isn't the way we feel and look in our clothes what really matters?
Keeping track of this will also give you the motivation to keep going. It's so exciting to watch your body transform each week and you'll want to stick to it!

- Exercise

    It's not required, but of course, you'll feel better, look better, and get better results if you do. Exercise is important, and key to being healthy and feeling well. So I HIGHLY recommend exercising at least 5x a week.

For My Next Challenge...

I have finished my second, 90 day challenge on ViSalus and am excited to begin my third! 
On my first challenge, I focused on losing the baby weight. I focused on toning up for my second challenge. Now, for this next challenge, the focus is to survive my Insanity Asylum workouts! ;), but to also gain more muscle and to push myself athletically. 
During these next 90 days, I will be drinking one shake a day. I like to work out In the morning, so I drink my shake for breakfast, after I exercise. Then I will continue to eat healthy, well portioned meals, snacks in between my meals, and be drinking lots of water. 
So now that I have lost my weight, I will drink only one shake a day to continue to receive all of the excellent nutrition. 
The challenges work! If you stick to them and give yourself time, you'll see results. They have each challenge set up in 90 day increments for a reason. Change takes time and work.

Can I drink the shakes while nursing?

This is the most commonly asked question. Can I drink ViSalus shakes while nursing? The answer... Yes. But I, and the people at ViSalus, would strongly recommend you don't drink them as a weight loss aid.
There is nothing harmful in the shakes, they are actually packed with nutrients your body needs, but it is not healthy to cut calories when nursing. You should do the opposite and be taking in a few more calories. I would suggest drinking a shake a day while nursing, just for the amazing health benefits and nutrients you'll receive, but DO NOT replace your meals with shakes.

It works!

I just completed my first 90 day ViSalus challenge, but there is no time to waste, on to the next 90 day challenge! It helped me lose the weight, now I'm going to use it to help me tone up.
By replacing two meals a day with a shake and daily exercise, I was able to lose 21 lbs, and 10 1/2 inches off of my body...in just 90 days!
I'm excited to get going on my next 90 days.

7 Tips

It's round 2 for me on ViSalus shakes. They're not letting me down and I have learned a few tricks that have helped me, and will help you, stay motivated and end up with the results you're hoping for.

Top 7 Tips

#7:  They Are What You Make Them

As goes with anything, remember that your results will depend on your commitment to this lifestyle change.

#6: Chew gum

If you are having a hard time not "chewing" every one of your meals, pop some gum into your mouth and chew your heart out! I think I have 10 varieties of gum in my purse right now, one of those being root beer float :)

#5: Switch It Up

Drinking shakes can get a little old some days so it is important, and helpful, to switch up the flavors!

#4: Water Is Your Friend

Drinking a lot of water every day is important no matter what you're doing, but it is extra important while drinking your shakes. You are getting so many nutrients from these shakes, that you need to help flush them through your system. Some complain about constipation while on the shakes, well people, it's because you're not staying hydrated! DRINK WATER.

#3: Eat Snacks

You are supposed to eat healthy snacks between each meal and it is so important that you do! First, because we don't want you to starve! And secondly, you need to keep your metabolism awake and working!

#2: Sticking To A Schedule Is Key

"Do you feel hungry when drinking the shakes?"  Answer: Not when I stay on schedule, drink my breakfast shake at BREAKFAST and then make sure to have my snacks. I get so busy feeding and helping everyone else that sometimes it's almost noon when I go to drink my first shake of the day. . . not good people! These shakes are designed to wake your body up and start working properly. They are packed with all of the nutrients you should be taking in every day, and by doing that, your metabolism start working and helping you lose weight. So you need to make sure to give your body the fuel it needs to work for your benefit. And if you confuse it by skipping meals and letting yourself get hungry in between meals, because you're not eating snacks, you won't see the results you could be seeing otherwise.

#1: Take Before Pictures, Measurements, and Weigh In!

I cannot stress how important this is!!! You HAVE to take before pics and take your body measurements. You will be shocked with the progress you have when you do this. It is also so motivational when you see your progress in those different ways. Last time I took the visalus challenge, I stopped losing weight but continued losing inches. If i wouldn't have been keeping track of my inches lost each week, I would have gotten depressed that "the shakes weren't working anymore." So even if the pictures are only for your eyes, take them.

Now, I must really love you guys, because I am going to share my before pictures with you just so you can get an idea of what i'm talking about. And once again, if I talk the talk, i'm willing to walk the walk. . . only because I hope it will motivate and help you guys.

It's shake time again!!!

I am SO excited to be starting up my Visalus shakes again! Baby Birdie is here and she has left quite a mark on my body ha. But thanks to these shakes, i'm not even worried about it!

A lot of you have asked me questions and are curious about what these are all about. I will start making more posts, but before i do, read through my previous posts to help you get a better idea about what these are. Once you've done that, PLEASE contact me with any questions!!! !RECIPES! part 2

I have sent this out to a few people through e-mail, but i wanted to also post it for everyone to see. Hope you enjoy!
*if any of you have a favorite recipe, please share :) we all know that variety is our best friend.


For my go to shake recipes. . . 

Strawberry Orange:
8-10 oz. orange juice
2 scoops Visalus shake mix
3 frozen strawberries

Chocolate covered Strawberry:
8-10 oz. fat free milk
2 scoops Visalus shake mix
1/2 of a fat free chocolate pudding cup (*for lower calorie option, use the visalus chocolate flavor mix in)
2 frozen strawberries

Orange Banana: aka orange you glad i didn't say banana ;)
8-10 oz. orange juice
2 scoops Visalus shake mix
1/2 frozen banana

Peanut butter banana:
8-10 oz. fat free milk
2 scoops Visalus shake mix
1/2 frozen banana
1 T. peanut butter

Reeses peanut butter cup:
8-10 oz. fat free milk
2 scoops Visalus shake mix
1/2 fat free chocolate pudding cup (*or visalus chocolate flavor mix in)
1 T. peanut butter
4-6 ice cubes

Mixed berry:
8-10 oz. orange juice
2 scoops Visalus shake mix
handful of frozen mixed berries

There are no rules and practically no combination that tastes bad. So have fun experimenting! CHEERS
